In May 2020, the SFC and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) initiated the establishment of the Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group. Other members include the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council (AFRC), Environment and Ecology Bureau, Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB), Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, Insurance Authority (IA) and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA).
In October 2022, the CASG launched the Sustainable Finance Internship Initiative to support capacity building. As part of this effort, the SFC, the HKMA, the IA and the MPFA have encouraged their respective constituents to join the Initiative via a Joint Letter.
The SFC introduced a new Sustainable Finance Internship Programme, providing university students with exposure to setting and implementing sustainable finance policies.
In April 2023, the FSTB and the SFC co-hosted the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Green Finance Cooperation Meeting to discuss the work directions for further deepening regional collaboration to create a comprehensive green and sustainable finance ecosystem.
In May 2023, the CASG met with financial market participants, academia and technology firms to exchange views on the latest developments on transition finance and green fintech, and promoting Hong Kong’s strengths as an international sustainable finance hub.
